Thrifty Thursday – Keeping Kids Entertained On A Budget
Keeping Kids Entertained On A Budget“I’m bored!”

Every parent hates to hear those words, even more so when you are elbows deep in the dirty dishes.

If your kids are anything like mine they are always wanting to go out and do something “fun”. However, there is not always money in the family budget to be hitting up indoor playgrounds or the latest movie release. Over time I have come up with a few go-to activities to help keep my kids entertained when the funds are low and thought I would share with you.

Here is my list of thrifty ideas to keep your kids entertained while on a budget:

Go for a hike: Pack up some snacks and water and head out into the great outdoors. You can add some extra fun to this by making a scavenger hunt. This activity will cost you nothing with the added bonus of getting your daily exercise.

Go for a walk on the beach: No matter the time of year it is fun to walk along the beach. Pack up your pail and shovel and head out of comb the beach for shells.

Go for a bike ride: Fill your water bottle, put on your helmet and hit the streets. Ride around your neighborhood and discover.

Discount movie day: Cineplex movie theaters has a Family Favorites Day once a week where you can do to the movies for $2.99.

Picnic in the park: Patch up your picnic basket and grab a blanket and head out to the park. Not only will your kids not fight about eating their lunch they will be entertained by the playground, the great outdoors, and other children to play with.

Discount swimming days: Check your local pool, most will have a discount day with a family swim for $2 per person or even FREE.

Family Movie night: This is a favorite in our house, one night each week we have a movie night. We let the kids stay up late, pop some popcorn, grab some sweet snacks, set up camp in the living room and enjoy a movie together.

Go on a Pokemon Hunt: In our house, we are all too familiar with the new craze of PokemonGo. This is currently one of the top activities my kids love to do. We will pack up some snacks, water and put on our running shoes and head out to a park or trail in the area in hunt of Pokemon. Yes, this app does require data usage to play however, I use more data monthly on looking at Facebook than on PokemonGo.

Family Games Night: Slip into your jammies, gather some snacks and bust out the board games. Get ready for some fun and good old family competition.

If you have you would add to the list please share them in the comments below.
