This past weekend my husband was out of town for work, after a day of rain left us stuck in the house we needed to find something fun to burn off some energy. After some brainstorming with the kids, we decided that we would go apple picking. We packed up some snacks and headed across town to Willow View Farms.
We have had a few friend recommend this farm to us over the years and now that we live in the area I thought it would be a perfect time to check it out. Willow View Farms is a family run farm and has been selling produce fresh from the farm for the past 23 years. They have a selection of U-pick apples, plums, pears, corn, and pumpkins available for purchase in their Country Market.
As you walk up to the entrance there are a lot of complimentary wagons for you to use in the pumpkin patch and orchard. Being at the farm solo this came in very handy with keeping my two-year-old contained when needed. The first thing I noticed when we arrived on the farm was that home farm feel. As you walk past the country market you see an open play area for kids with lots of fun cut outs for pictures to capture your memories. And a large picnic area, you are welcome to bring your own food to enjoy on the farm or you can enjoy some treats from the Concession.
After an hour I was able to drag my boys away from the play area and start heading towards the apple orchard. After stopping to look at the chickens and pose for some “How Tall This Fall?” pictures we made our way past the pumpkin patch and out to the orchard. There are over 22 varieties and 50 types of pumpkins on the farm to choose from. My personal favorite for u-pick is Jonagold, so off we went to a row that was bountiful with apples. It did not take us long to fill our bag of apples that were at least half the size of my 2-year-olds head.
As we headed back to the Country Market to pay for our apples we stopped at the petting barn. It is a very large and clean barn featuring big pens with everything from little rabbits to big pigs. The petting barns has ample space to move around and space along the fence for all little ones to enjoy. What stood out to me the most was, the large area to wash your hands. I was truly impressed by the fact that they actually had WARM water available. Most experiences that I have had you are met with cold water to wash your hands which we all know does nothing for the germs.
We are so happy to have such a lovely family farm so close to our home. There will be many trips here over the Fall season to pick apples and to search for our perfect pumpkin.
