Sometimes, you hear about an initiative that you just instantly connect with, and for me Cuddle+Kind is one of those projects. The thought of the many families around the world living in such poverty that they are unable to give their growing children the nutrition that their bodies need, breaks my heart. Due to the enormity of the situation I’ve always found myself at a loss as to how I can help, so when I heard about Cuddle+Kind (and how they intend to feed children across the world through the sale of their beautiful, hand-knit dolls) I was immediately drawn to it.
After Jennifer and Derek Woodgate of Milton, Ontario watched a documentary on the impact of childhood hunger across the world, they immediately decided to do something about it. Their idea was born that very day, and after months of planning and preparing, they have released the first line of dolls (there are nine to choose from) on Indigogo. With the sale of each Cuddle+Kind doll, 10 meals are provided to children in need through their partners World Food Program USA, and Children’s Hunger Fund. The production of the dolls is outsourced to talented female artisans in Peru, providing the women who create them with a sustainable fair trade source of income.
The holidays are quickly approaching, and I wanted to share this project with you in hopes that whether you have baby showers, birthdays, or Christmas gifts to shop for you will also consider giving a Cuddle+Kind doll. With each one that we purchase, we’ll also be giving the gift of ten meals to a hungry child.
Shop during the pre-launch campaign on Indigogo on or before October 16th, 2015, we have the opportunity to make the same impact while getting these attractive dolls at a discounted price. Plus, we’ll also receive free shipping and handling on any orders being delivered within Canada and the continental United States.
The Woodgate family aims to help provide one million meals to children in need each year, will you help them get there?
“With a background in health, we recognize the crucial role nutrition plays in a child’s development. As parents, we believe all children should have enough food to eat and an opportunity to thrive, so when we saw a documentary on how widespread childhood hunger is, it made us unbearably sad. On that very day, we decided to do something about it. Our whole family is passionate about what we`re doing and loves every doll we make, we sincerely hope you do too.” – Derek and Jen Woodgate
