Over the past month or so I’ve begun to think about the start of a new year, and setting new goals for myself. I don’t typically make a resolution per se, but do like to take a look back at the way my past year has gone and contemplate the areas where I can make personal improvements.
The last few weeks I have been thinking a lot about the changes that I can make to save money, and also to be less wasteful – so when I received the opportunity to work with FlipSize Canada, I was really excited! Not only is it a local BC business, but their service also falls in line with my aspirations for 2015.
FlipSize Canada offers the opportunity for parents to “flip” their kid’s clothes. You can buy, sell, or swap new or gently used children’s clothing on their site – from the comfort of your living room. As a lover of online shopping and deal hunting this makes me a little bit giddy! I’ve always wanted to sell my kids clothes after they grow out of them to offset the cost of buying the next size up; but in the end, due to the hassle of selling via sites that involve having to meet up with strangers or have them come to my home, I always just opt to donate. I am very excited to send in my items to FlipSize once they reopen the ‘inbound bag’ part of their site in a few weeks. All you have to do is request a free mail bag, stuff it with acceptable items as outlined on the site (approximately 30-60 pieces), and then drop it off at any Canada Post location within 14 days of receiving it to take advantage of the prepaid shipping. When your bag is processed, you receive points for each item, which can then be redeemed for cash via paypal, in the form of gift cards, or used as store credit.
In order to facilitate an honest review of my experience, FlipSize Canada offered me a store credit to try out their service. I eagerly filled up my shopping cart with items for both my 3- and 6-year old daughters, and marvelled at the quality of the pieces on the site. You can purchase clothing from sizes NB to size 12, and shoes in a variety of sizes as well. Some items are even new with the tags still on!
For $41 I was able to get 9 pieces for my girls (including two new pairs of shoes), and the shipping was $9.99. Shipping is free on orders over $70, and also for purchases of any amount if you are able to pick up from their Surrey, BC location.
When I went to make my purchase on the site, I experienced a problem redeeming the gift certificate code during checkout. While the code did not work, the items disappeared from the site so I was unable to re-add them to my cart. I contacted FlipSize owner Cat Clutchey to mention what had happened, and she was very quick to respond. Although she was unsure how my order had partly processed without payment, she was able to sort it out without any hassle to me, and couple of days later the items were at my door!
My 3 year old daughter and I opened the bag together and she was buzzing with excitement at her new dress and sparkly blue shoes. Even though it was cold that day she insisted on wearing her new outfit to pick up her sister from school, and happily ran through the playground showing it off.
My 6 year old daughter is very excited about the clothing that I picked out for her too, in particular a pink vest and a Brave themed nightgown which were only $4.00 apiece.
I am very impressed with the quality of all of the clothing and shoes that I received, the great customer service, and the speed of delivery. I had my doubts about the ‘No Duds Policy’ on the site, but based on the items that I received, they take that policy very seriously! Not one item that I received had any tears, stains, loose threads, or any other flaw. Overall I am very happy with the experience, and I can’t wait to keep flipping!
