It may be coming to end, but summer is not quite over yet! If you’re running out of ideas for inexpensive family-friendly activities, you might want to check out one or two of these events!
Embrace the sun:
Visit the gardens at the Horticultural Centre of the Pacific – Anyone under 16 can enter the gardens for FREE any time, making for a reasonably priced excursion no matter what day you visit. For for the best deal, head over to the gardens at the HCP on the third Thursday of any given month, when it is FREE for everyone to visit.
Bliss Beat Yoga Jam – All ages and experience levels are invited to join in on this FREE Yoga Jam at Centennial Square, on Friday August 22nd. The event starts at 5:30 pm – with yoga beginning at 6 pm – and music playing into the evening.
Capital Regional District guided walks and hikes – The CRD is offering a wide range of FREE drop-in walks and hikes suitable for varying age groups – not only over the summer – but into the fall season as well. Be sure to check out the events brochures on the righthand-side of the linked page to find out what’s coming up!
Family Day at The Maritime Museum of BC – If you haven’t got plans for this Saturday (Aug 23rd) head over to the MMBC from 1 pm to 4 pm for crafts, activities and model boat building! Admission is only $5 per person, or FREE for members.
The FREE-B Film Festival – Pack a blanket and some snacks and enjoy a FREE movie under the stars! If this is something that interests you, be sure to fit it into your plans now, because this is the last weekend! Spaceballs is playing on Friday August 22nd (at Beacon Hill Park) and Death Goes North is playing on Saturday August 23rd (at Broadmead Village). Both films begin at 9 pm, rain or shine.
Avoid the sun:
The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria – If you’re looking for a place to take a break from the heat while still keeping the family busy, round everyone up and head over to the AGGV. Admission is by donation on the first Tuesday of every month, and if you want to visit on a different day, note that kids 5 and under are always FREE and youth rates are only $2.50!
Victoria Comic Book Expo – The next expo is on August 24th from 11 am – 4pm at the Comfort Inn & Suites Victoria. Browse the comics and collectables, and even grab yourself a free comic book (while supplies last)! Admission is FREE.
