While it’s not too often that I drink green tea, I love the health benefits associated with consuming it. It had never crossed my mind that I could add it to my diet in solid form, so when I heard about Kiss Me Organics Culinary Grade Organic Matcha – Green Tea Powder I was pretty excited!
I love to experiment with new flavour profiles in the kitchen so I couldn’t wait to try out some new food and drink recipes. When I received a bag of the Culinary Grade Organic Matcha – Green Tea Powder to test, I started out by making a plain cup of green tea to familiarize myself with the taste and texture of this particular brand.
It offers a nice, subtle, and smooth taste. When I fell ill with the flu over the holidays I used it to replace coffee, and found it to be very soothing on my sore throat.
Along with the green tea powder, Kiss Me Organics provided me with an online recipe booklet, so at Christmas-time I decided to try out the Matcha Sugar Cookie recipe. The matcha gives the cookies a festive green color, and the cookies were a big hit with my family. The recipe called for a dusting of icing sugar over the top of the cookies but I left half of them plain in case it would make them too sweet. It turns out that they tasted fantastic and not overly sweet either way, so that was a nice surprise.
I must admit that when my husband and I did a sampling before serving them to guests we were unsure about the flavour after the first bite, probably because we couldn’t quite relate it to anything we’d tasted in baking before. By the time we had each finished one small cookie we were hooked. My husband ate six of them before anyone even arrived at our house, so I was glad that the recipe made three dozen.
I can’t wait to explore more of the recipes, as I am starting to see the potential for how well the taste of matcha will combine with many other flavours. Smoothies, Lemon Matcha Waffles and Matcha Madras Curry are at the top of my must try recipe list!
