October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and we here at EH Canada want to encourage both women and men around the world to be proactive about their breast health. By developing an early detection plan and maintaining healthy habits we can help both to reduce our risks, as well catch the disease much earlier on if it does develop.
“Breast Cancer Awareness is not only important to me, but it is a cause very close to the heart of the members of my family. In 2011 we lost my Aunt after a 4 year battle with Breast Cancer. She was the rock that held our family together for many years. She was a Mother of 2 daughters and Nana of 5 little girls and 1 little boy (that she never did get to meet). The loss of my Aunt has taken a huge toll on my Nanny, a woman that was once happy, fun to be around and loving. She has let her age set in and is now a shell of her former self while she lives with the reality of having to bury her only daughter.” – Michelle Bastien
“Before I was born, my grandmother battled and survived breast cancer. No one talked about it when I was a child, and it was only as I got older that she told me about the fight for life that left her with only one breast. I remember as a teenager thinking only in superficial terms what that must feel like. Now a mother to two daughters as she was back then, I can only imagine how frightening it is to learn that you are very ill when there is so much left to live for.” – Jenn Gill
This month, we’ve partnered with Glamulet to share their Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. We believe it’s important not only to bring awareness to this issue, but also to contribute funding towards research that will save lives in the future.
